BPCC Burns Night
The purpose of the evening is to celebrate the life and times of the Scottish poet, Robert Burns at a Burns Night supper.
Tony Reczek, Alyn Smith, Olga Grygier-Siddons, Martyn O'Reilly, Lindsay Davidson
Why Burns Night is so important
Scottish winter nights are longer and colder than those experienced in southern England. Scotland - like Poland - has harsher, darker winters. Christmas has come and gone, but late January remains gloomy; spring is still a long way away. So the Scots created a special event to look forward to - a night warmed by food, drink, friendship and poetry, a celebration of the life and works of Scotland's national bard, Robert Burns.
The BPCC holds its Burns Supper on Thursday 26 January at Warsaw's Le Regina hotel, an event bringing together Scots and their Polish friends to celebrate Scottish traditions - a distinctive way of life shaped by a harsh climate.
The evening, hosted by Tony Reczek, BPCC chairman, will start with the Guest of Honour - the Haggis - being piped in by Lindsay Davidson, our master piper, followed by the Toast to the Haggis, helped along with nips of Uisghe Beathe (the water of Life). Master of ceremonies for the evening will be the one and only Martyn O'Reilly, who will make the evening unforgettably Scottish.
There follows a four-course Scottish Banquet leading to the Immortal Memory, where our guests will appraise some of Robert Burns' poems.
Alyn Smith, Member of the European Parliament for Scotland, will Toast the Lassies. The Toast will be followed, as always at a Burns Supper, by the Reply on Behalf of the Lassies from Olga Grygier-Siddons, CEO, PwC Central and Eastern Europe.
Join Alyn, Olga, Lindsay, Martin and Tony to celebrate the life and times of the Scottish poet, Robert Burns at a Burns Night supper. This is a traditional meal, celebrated annually around the world on or about his birthday, being 25 January.
