BPCC Annual Gala Dinner

27 October, Warsaw Bristol Hotel

Dear Members and Friends,

For the first time in its history, the BPCC is organising an Annual Gala Dinner which is to be its main social event of the autumn.

Poland's new ambassador to the UK,  Arkady Rzegocki and Her Majesty's Ambassador to Poland, Jonathan Knott, have both confirmed their presence at the BPCC's Annual Gala Dinner on Thursday 27 October, which takes place in Warsaw's Bristol Hotel.

Two keynote speeches - an eyewitness's perspective of Poland's politican and economic transition from the Times' Warsaw correspondent during the 1980s, Roger Boyes, and some inspirational business insights from Lord Bilimoria, creator of a global beer brand, will make the evening a truly worthwhile event to be at. Tickets are selling fast; to avoid disappointment book your table today.

Lord Bilimoria is the founder of Cobra Beer, Chairman of the Cobra Beer Partnership Ltd, and Chairman of Molson Coors Cobra India. He was voted Entrepreneur of the Year three times for creating a beer brand that's become one of the most awarded beers in the world. Lord Bilimoria is an honorary fellow of Sidney Sussex College Cambridge and Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Judge Business School, Cambridge University. He has sat in the House of Lords since 2006. As Founding Chairman of the UK India Business Council, Lord Bilimoria has first-hand experience in driving bilateral trade and investment relations between countries.

Roger Boyes, the Diplomatic Editor and Chief Foreign Commentator of The Times of London, was a foreign correspondent for 35 years, many of them in Poland, Russia, and other countries in Central and Eastern Europe. Mr Boyes covered martial law in Poland, the revolutions of 1989, the reunification of Germany and the wars in the Balkans. He has written 12 books including a a biography of Lech Walesa, an account of the murder of Jerzy Popieluszko and study of the Soviet black market. Mr Boyes will talk about Poland's economic and political development since the Solidarity era of the early 1980s.

On behalf of our Honorary Presidents, the BPCC’s Board of Directors and the Executive Team, we would be greatly honoured to welcome you among this distinguished company.

The Annual Dinner formally inaugurates the BPCC's Silver Jubilee Year in 2017, and will be a memorable occasion to entertain your valued business partners, key staff and friends.

We are very pleased to announce that during the BPCC Gala Dinner held on Thursday 27 October, we will be supporting The Sue Ryder Museum as our main charitable cause of the evening.

The Sue Ryder Museum opens in Warsaw on 19 October. Located within the city’s original gatehouse, or ‘rogatka’, on Pl. Unii Lubelskiej 2, the museum stands as a memorial to an exceptional philanthropist and a great friend of Poland. She served with the Special Operations Executive alongside Polish Cichociemni during WW2. After the war, she worked tirelessly for Poland and for disadvantaged Poles. Her charitable work was international but in Poland alone she founded 30 nursing homes, hospitals and hospices.

Ennobled in 1979, Sue Ryder chose as her honourable title 'Lady Ryder of Warsaw' when, as a peer, she sat in the House of Lords.

Today her legacy lives on. The museum, just across the road from the Sue Ryder charity shop (Warsaw’s first, on ul. Bagatela 15), houses personal possessions, priceless archives from the WW2 that bear witness to her wartime cooperation with Poland’s elite Cichociemni (‘Silent and Unseen’) commandos, and her charitable activities including medical aid for Poland, during Martial Law.

The BPCC will be supporting the museum until the end of the year.
