The Banking and Finance Osborne Clarke team opts for digitalization and decarbonization

The future of the financial services sector will be shaped by two global trends - digitalisation and decarbonisation. We are already seeing a progressive digital transformation of banks, involving collaboration with FinTechs, and implementation of AI or cloud technology solutions. In finance, on the other hand, there is a clear shift towards RES projects, in response to the political situation, the EU regulations, and the challenges of reducing the environmental impact of the modern economy.

In response to these trends, Osborne Clarke is strengthening its Banking and Finance team in Poland. Starting on 1 September, the team is led by Michal Markowski, an expert in investment financing.

Michał Markowski has over 15 years of experience in providing legal services to entities investing in the renewable energy sector. He also advises on credit transactions, debt issuance, leasing transactions, real estate sales, and on financial aspects of the M&A projects. He also has experience in regulatory advice to financial institutions, and in innovation investment projects in the financial sector (FinTech), including payment services projects.

Prior to joining Osborne Clarke, Michał Markowski headed the Banking and Finance practice at a leading international law firm. He also gained experience, among others, as an in-house lawyer in a company belonging to the largest energy group in Poland, and he worked with leading UK and US international law firms.

In addition to Michał Markowski, the banking and finance team comprises: Karolina Turko (senior associate), Małgorzata Gołębiowska (associate), and Rafał Strzępek (junior associate).

Karolina Turko specialises in advising on credit transactions (inter alia, financing of renewable energy projects, commercial and residential real estate, and acquisition finance, including syndicated loans). Her experience also includes advising on out-of-court restructuring (standstill agreements) for both creditors and debtors.

Małgorzata Gołębiowska advises domestic and foreign banks and borrowers on real estate financing, M&A financing, energy project financing, and debt purchase transactions. Her experience includes: preparing and negotiating LMA standard loan agreement documentation for real estate and for RES financing transactions, debt refinancing transactions, and cross-border acquisition financing transactions, as a legal adviser to both banks and borrowers.

Rafał Strzępek specialises in financial law, banking law, and commercial law. He advises on transactional projects and participates in negotiations of security documents. He supports clients in the renewable energy sector in investment financing.
