Language strategy and return on investment in language courses

Lufthansa, Lenovo, Honda, Bridgestone, SAP, Air-Bus, Samsung, ABB – what do all these companies have in common? Language. They all use English in their corporate communications regardless of the nationality of their CEO and despite the fact that their head office is in non-English speaking countries like Japan, Germany or France.

Yet more and more companies in the UK are realising that English isn’t enough to do business globally. Without Spanish, German, Mandarin and French (languages spoken in their main export markets) they lose contracts worth millions of pounds every year.

Language is a strategic issue. Harvard Business Review talks about a language strategy. It must be reflected in the talent management system of the organisation and its competence models, and it must be aligned with the vision of global expansion. As such language strategy affects the whole company.

According to this approach, language courses are an investment which bring measurable business returns after the first year.

During the meeting we’ll tell you:
  • how to design language training as an effective tool of company’s language strategy
