Dear Members,

we are a few days before the anniversary of the lockdown announced in Poland on Friday 12 March 2020. We all remember the turmoil and uncertainty as we readied our businesses for the effects of what would be the most serious long-term disruption to society that most of us have ever faced. Today, with hopes high that an effective vaccination programme will get the pandemic under control, we can plan for recovery.

During the pandemic year, we at the Chamber have mastered the technology to keep you involved and informed. Our online membership activities have proved that the concept of remote participation works well in practice, but as the weather gets warmer, our thoughts turn to face-to-face meetings. So we’d like you to book – still provisionally – the dates below for live networking events. Under full sanitary regime and in open-air spaces wherever possible, we’ll travel across the BPCC regions to get closer to you and celebrate the Polish majówka with a Nice to See You series of four networking events (from 17:30 till late):

• Thursday 6 May, Wrocław
• Thursday 13 May, Poznań
• Thursday 20 May, Warsaw
• Thursday 27 May, Krakow

Our Real Estate Forum in Wrocław is back on Thursday 20 May. The beer-lovers’ International Oktoberfest is planned as usual in Wroclaw for Friday 10 September. The BPCC Gala Dinner will take place on Thursday 21 October, focusing on the concept of female leadership and gender equality. Ladies will be our keynote speakers and the men will be attentive listeners.

Look out for media announcements with further details about all listed events each Wednesday in our regular Events Newsletter. Please make sure you’re signed up! Other events and activities will be posted as we go. And please also approach us with your content proposals for policy group meetings, training sessions, briefings and workshops.

On the policy side we are busy as ever: with state budgets hard-hit around the world, we can expect increasingly adversarial relations between tax authorities and tax payers. At the same time as firms are focusing on business development, regulators will be keeping a watchful eye on the business environment. Together with our stakeholders, we will be promoting sustainable economic recovery through incentives and far-reaching support, Brexit (link) and Covid-19 have not made matters easier for Polish-UK trade (link), so we will continue with our mission to educate and guide where firms need assistance.

We are in the final stages of the restructuring process – our previous operating entities – BPCC Ltd and BPU Sp. z o.o. will cease to exist in the second quarter of this year, and the first Annual General Meeting of the BPCC in its new form as a Polish employers' association has been scheduled for Wednesday 30 June.

Dziękuję’ and 'thank you' are three words that express our gratitude to all members that have stayed with us during this difficult time. A warm welcome goes to our new members who have put their trust in our activities and cooperation. We are most grateful for your commitment to our British-Polish business community.

Please continue to be careful – and stay safe!

Kind regards from Paweł and Tony
