In the survey, carried out among members of the International Group of Chambers of Commerce including the BPCC, Poland holds on to the top spot in the ranking as the best place to invest across the entire CEE region. Poland’s main advantage, according to foreign investors, is its people. Of the five most important factors that attract investors to Poland, three relate to the quality of human capital: education level, skills and work ethic.
The conclusion of the report is also such that Poland is increasingly civilised. Poland is being perceived more favourably in terms of infrastructure, which was for many years our Achilles' heel. In the 2016 survey, it has become our advantage. There has also been a big increase over past years in the category of payment practices, as businesses pay each other more promptly.
Exceptional improvement has been noted in the way investors perceive the functioning of the state administration. Also highly ranked is the business ecosystem – the availability of services, suppliers, contractors – that is, everything that proves the existence of a healthy, free market.
The other good news: the first quarter of this year has proved to be very good for foreign investment. Compared to the first quarter of last year, the investors with whom PAIiIZ was working planned to create about 30,000 jobs. Now – it’s well over 40,000. Over the past 12 months, the pipeline of inbound FDI projects supported by PAIiIZ has increased to 192, up from 175 during the previous 12-month period. And nearly one-third of projects we supported became wins for Poland over the past six months.
After these few years of economic crisis, through which Poland coped in manner that surprised investors, we have well-grounded confidence in Poland as a location for foreign investment.
